PA Labor and Industry

The Department of Labor and Industry manages many responsibilities including:

Business assistance.
Workplace safety.
Worker compensation.
Vocational rehabilitation and training.
Enforces labor laws and regulations.
Issues permits and licenses.

Labor and Industry is also responsible for implementing and administering state-wide adoption of the Uniform Construction Code (UCC). This code will take effect on April 9, 2004. All builders must begin to build to the code by that date. Municipalites must notify L&I of their intent to enforce and administer the code by July 8, 2004.
